Terms of Service
Effective September 24, 2026
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of PROMISEcause. By using the service or creating an account, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
PROMISEcause is an evidence-backed political accountability service that publishes attributable promises, factual claims, public evidence, and reproducible accountability scores. The service measures observable delivery and factual accuracy; it does not determine political intent, ideology, moral character, or how anyone should vote.
Research reference, not evidence
PROMISEcause is in beta and remains under active development. Its content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.
All website content, including data, scores, summaries, quotations, screenshots, and reports, is provided only as a reference for further research and independent verification. You must not use it as evidence on its own or as a substitute for original sources.
Before relying on or citing any information, check the original sources, their context, dates, and current accuracy, and seek independent corroboration. A page or score on PROMISEcause does not itself establish that a claim is true or false.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be legally able to agree to these terms and be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live requires parental consent at a higher age, you may use the service only with that consent.
Some records require a verified Google account or email code. You are responsible for access to your email or Google account and for activity through your PROMISEcause session. Provide accurate information, do not impersonate another person, and sign out on shared devices. Tell us through the footer feedback channel if you suspect unauthorized access.
Acceptable use
You may use public materials for lawful research, commentary, and personal use, subject to source rights and these terms. You must not:
- Break the law, infringe another person's rights, harass people, or submit unlawful or malicious content.
- Bypass authentication, access controls, request limits, robots directives, or other security measures.
- Probe, disrupt, overload, scrape at a harmful rate, introduce malware, or interfere with the service or its users.
- Misrepresent PROMISEcause content, provenance, scores, or affiliation, or use the service to make automated high-impact decisions about a person.
- Access another person's account or collect personal information from the service without a lawful basis.
Evidence, scores, and third-party sources
Records and scores are research outputs based on available public evidence and a published methodology. Sources may be incomplete, disputed, corrected, or unavailable, and scores may change when evidence or methodology changes. PROMISEcause does not guarantee that every statement is complete, current, or error-free.
The service is informational and does not provide legal, financial, investment, electoral, or other professional advice. Verify important information with primary sources before relying on it.
Links, excerpts, names, and source materials may belong to third parties. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement, and third-party sites operate under their own terms and privacy practices.
Feedback and intellectual property
PROMISEcause and its original interface, branding, software, compilation, and explanatory content are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. These terms do not transfer ownership to you. Rights in cited public records and third-party material remain with their respective owners.
If you send feedback, you give PROMISEcause permission to use it without restriction or payment to improve the service. Do not include confidential information or personal information that you are not authorized to provide.
Corrections and rights concerns
To report a factual error, broken source, rights concern, or other issue, use Leave feedback in the footer and include enough detail to identify the relevant page and material. PROMISEcause may preserve prior published revisions for transparency while publishing a correction or updated assessment.
Availability and account action
We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and the service may be unavailable without notice. We may limit or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect the service, comply with law, investigate misuse, or enforce these terms. You may stop using the service and request account deletion through the footer feedback channel.
Provisions that by their nature should continue after access ends, including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms, remain in effect.
Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, or security.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PROMISEcause and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, reputation, revenue, or opportunity arising from use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Disputes and changes
Before starting formal proceedings, please use the footer feedback channel to describe the dispute so the parties can try to resolve it informally. These terms are governed by applicable law, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
We may update these terms to reflect service, legal, or security changes. A new effective date will identify the revised terms. Continued use after revised terms take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
